Layne Flack

Layne Flack is one of the more tragic but great pokerplayers that is currently on the circuit. Born May 18, 1969 in Rapid City, South Dakota, Layne was not a pokerplayer to begin with but he did work in a casino where he learned the bestthere is about the game. This gave himthe edge he needed to continue on. Flackwould spend all of his free time in another casino honing his skills andwinning all the money that he could. This began to take its toll on him and he figured out that he could notcontinue to work full time and play poker too, so he left the casino and becamea full time gambler. This came on the heels of the revelation that he was namedthe night manager of the casino but that did not shake his determination tobecome the best there is in poker.

Hestarted to work, hitting the casinos for the high stakes games and keptwinning. There came a time when he wasnot winning so hot and was getting into trouble. This is when he met the prolific Johnny Chanwho took Flack under his wing and offered all the help and advice that he couldget. This was a turning point in Flack’scareer and he soon began to improve so much that he could enter thetournaments. This proved to be quite theaccomplishment.

Rightnow Flack is the proud owner of five World Series of Poker bracelets andfifteen money finishes in the various tournaments that it holds. There is no main event bracelet among thebunch and his best finish in the main event was one hundred ninety fourth. He continued on and holds one World PokerTour title as well as five money finishes for the tour as well.

Oneof the most tragic parts of the story is the addiction to drugs that Flackpicked up in 2004. This would have beenhis undoing had it not been for Daniel Negreanu who stepped up and footed thebill for Flack to go to rehab. He is nowclean and continues to work at his poker skills rather than the drugs.

At37 Flack has earned over three million dollars in live tournament prizes andstill continues to work the tables in the casinos to further hone his skillsand maybe make another run at the main event in the near future.
